International Management Trainee Program
Insights from our trainees and graduates
MARGHERITA VITO
Current position: International Management Trainee at PENNY Italy, completion of the program 12/2025
“Driven by curiosity and eager to apply my Marketing Management studies, the IMTP represents a unique chance to explore the retail world, from point-of-sale operations to strategic business decisions. As a trainee, I value the hands-on approach of the program and the opportunity to experience job rotations along the way. This provides a significant advantage in understanding which business area aligns best with my interests. So far, during the Core Business phase, I have been fascinated by how a retail company can tailor its offerings to attract consumers, maintain competitiveness, and ensure efficiency throughout the supply chain. Moreover, each day I discover more about REWE's learning opportunities, its international presence and its inspiring employees, which reinforces my belief that I am in the ideal place to kick-start my career. Excited for the upcoming phases, I look forward to strengthening my skills and developing new ones during the international project phase at PENNY in Austria!”
TIMO KONEIN
Recent graduate I Current position: Senior Data Analyst at HQ PENNY International in Germany, completion of the program 12/2024
“Having completed my master studies in Supply Chain Management and gaining valuable experiences across various industries, I was more than excited when I heard about the IMTP. I grew up with REWE next door and I was always eager to learn more about this industry which shapes our daily lives. The program offers a great opportunity to grasp all the steps that take place before we, as customers, do our grocery shopping. In addition, it is truly unique and enriching to connect with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and skill sets throughout the different phases of the program. I was able to spend my international project time at IKI Lithuania, where I worked in the field of logistics/SCM. What I particularly appreciate most about the program is the strong international focus, offering us the unique opportunity to experience different countries and cultures. “Handel ist Wandel” is a german phrase that sums up the dynamic environment in which we operate well – it didn’t get and it won’t get boring! From January 2025, I took on the role of a Data Analyst in the Supply Chain Management department in the HQ of PENNY International in Cologne, where I support in shaping the supply chain from the source to the customer.”
MARTIN KAISER
Senior graduate I Current position: Head of Finance Management in Austria, completion of the program 09/2011
“Armed with an economics degree, my quest for real-world banking experience led me to REWE's trainee program. This unique opportunity allowed me to dive headfirst into a major international company. Being inherently inquisitive, I thrive on learning from the ground up. Understanding company intricacies and internal processes was paramount to me, making the trainee program the ideal choice. Its biggest advantage lies in this immersive learning experience. Expressing a preference for finance, I naturally found my niche within the finance sector at REWE. What sets REWE in Austria apart is the remarkable diversity across group companies and business sectors. This, coupled with my financial background, adds a unique allure to my role. Navigating the fast-paced, innovative realm of retail ensures monotony is nonexistent. Each day brings fresh challenges and the opportunity to connect with new faces, making my role consistently engaging and rewarding.“
