Zirl: A market town at the foot of the Martinswand
Zirl is located at the southwestern end of the Karwendel Mountains, just about ten kilometers west of Innsbruck, and is dominated by the imposing Martinswand, which rises nearly 600 meters—a popular climbing area featuring the legendary Kaiser-Max-Grotte. As the former Roman settlement of Teriolis on the Via Claudia Augusta, the town looks back on a long history, a legacy still commemorated today by the Fragenstein castle ruins. Via the Inntal Autobahn and the railroad line, you’re quickly connected to Innsbruck as well as the neighboring communities of Inzing and Unterperfuss. After work, the Inntal Bike Trail or a hike in the Ehnbachklamm gorge are perfect ways to unwind.
